Friday July 1 once again saw a massive crowd pleaser in the opening of Hand Drawn Boom. Hundreds of people turned out to see this incredible mix of talented artists that use drawing as a finished medium in their practice. The eclectic mix of styles and content takes audiences on a journey through minimal abstraction through to graphic illustration, with even a tapestry work wedged in between. Featured at the opening were two great music acts, Full Ugly and Electric Sea Spider, which were accompanied by a live drawing wall envisioned by our good friend Hamishi. The drawing wall will be up for the duration of the exhibition, constantly evolving and growing with imagery added everyday. You can’t miss it downstairs at the gallery, so make sure you have a good look when you get down here!
People that attended the opening were treated to a very generous surprise, when artist Zoy Xoy decided to give his ten pieces away, in a move that brought smiles as well as confusion. Let’s just say this generosity won’t always be enjoyed, so congrats to the early birds that grabbed one when they had a chance. Another great addition was Mark Threadgold’s untitled drawing (Mixed media, 185 x 120 cm, retail price $3600) going up for silent auction with NO reserve. One third of the proceeds of this will be going to the Smith Family charity, a great cause to say the least. Bidding on his piece can be made via emailing the gallery at info@paradisehills.com.au . The auction will last for the duration of the exhibition. The only unfortunate event was the exclusion of Acorn’s work at the opening and during the first week of the exhibition due a prolonged postal strike in Canada. Those bastards! However, we will keep everyone informed on the arrival of his work as soon as it touches down at the gallery.
If you haven’t already seen this show, you should definitely not miss the opportunity to view the 58 works on exhibition. On til July 23. Get down and get involved.

NICHOLAS IVES TO SHOW NEXT AT PARADISE HILLS
We are excited to announce that Nicholas Ives will be showing with us after the conclusion of Hand Drawn Boom. His exhibition “I am flying through boundless space” will feature paintings inspired by the German school of painting that has produced such artists as Luc Tuymans, Wilhelm Sasnal and Michael Borremans, with a touch of minimalism that is at the same time soothing as it is mysterious or surreal. We will definitely enjoy this one, and the next few solo shows to come!
